When I visited Korea

Writer's picture: SharonSharon

I was interested in Korea since 2009 or around 2008. It started with a friend and k-pop (DBSK, 2NE1, 4minutes and Girls Generation in particular). In 2010, throught facebook, I started chatting with some people who said they were Korean and I discovered a little more about the culture as we were chatting.

In 2018 I was totally into Kang Daniel and Wanna One and I knew it was their last tour together. I felt the urge to go for this one time chance. I checked the flights and going to America was as expensive as going to Korea, but I still didn't have enough. God helped me, with my father's help💖 to realize this dream and I am forever grateful! At that time, I was also chatting with a kind person who helped me, without me asking for it, to get a ticket for the concert.

So I flew to Korea and attended the concert that same day. Thanks God I didn't get lost😂 and always thanks to Him, I was able to get on the last train! It was Beautiful.💖 The concert was held at Gocheok Sky Dome, it felt surreal to see Daniel, Ong and all the other so well even from a far! Seeing Kang Daniel standing and move just like I saw through a screen, in real life, was amazing: it was real. By the way, if you don't know Kang Daniel or Wanna One, check them out💖 they were chosen on a program called "Produce 101" in which you can see their personalities, humility and efforts. Amazing💪💖 Also, Daniel chosen his name from the Bible which add extra points🤭💖💖 and wears his heart on his shoulder. What I mean is that he's not afraid to say what's going on or that he needs a break, I really admire him for that because he shows that he's a human being and reveals strength in vulnerability as well as integrity.💪😃

Let's get back to the journey!

When I was going to Bukchon Hanok Village, I met a Korean Canadian on public transport and he ended up showing me the village, but before we went to a kind lady who owned the hanbok rental shop.

There 2 dreams of mine were realized: one to visit the village wearing the Hanbok and the other was something I wished for but didn't expect to ever experience. Like those movie scenes where someone who loves you combs your hair and you feel loved.💖

This sweet lady, in all of her gentleness, was combing my hair while explaining to me that she had been to Switzerland and complimented me for my look.💖 I am still grateful for her warm heart😃🥰💖💖💖

Seoul was nice, it kind of reminded me of Santo Domingo but also Tokyo. Poverty and moderty living together. It's a different vibe from the tv series but I enjoyed the difference. The food in Korea is EXCEPTIONAL and I have eaten street food, in restaurants, microwawe food and food from convenience store refrigerators... all of it is incredibly GOOD!!😍😍💖💖💖 Unlike here in Switzerland were microwawe and refrigerator foods taste terribly.😅

When I didn't know where to go, I got on a random bus and got off wherever my heart took me💖

I loved Busan.💖 I went there for just 1 day (I advice staying longer💖) and I saw a tourist bus and jumped on it. I could see one of the most marvelous places I have ever seen: Oryukdo.😍💖

Because of the tide I could only see 2 of the 5/6 islands😍 Climbing up the hill you can enjoy the panoramic view.

What's better than sea breeze, good weather and nature?💖 I loved it and as I think about it, I still can feel that peace.💖

There was also a cute man walking with two parrots on his shoulders, so lovely!😃 And a tender little dog whom I made friends with🤭💖💖

I am astonished about the kindness of some of the people I met along the way :) like the seller at the market near my hotel who gave me some socks for free and greeted me, or the kind girl at the CD shop who gave me free posters when I gave her a drawing.💖 Even before the Wanna One concert, I had given a drawing and a girl had given me some sweets with a wonderful bunny-shaped bag!💖💖💖 Which then I found on Aliexpress in different colours, and when I give it to someone, often they are happily surprised by its cuteness as I was!🤭💖🥰💖💖 Thank you!💖💖💖

It wasn't all sunshine and roses but there were many beautiful moments.💖

Two episodes that I think back to and that made me laugh are: when I ate with my christian friend a very spicy soup, so spicy it made me turn red and cry!! Although very tasty😂😂💖 and when I was at the restaurant with the person working in my hotel which, as soon as I told him that in our culture we do look each other in the eyes when we drink, he stared at me like there was no tomorrow!😂😂💖 He was so happy😂

I hope to be able to return soon, and if you haven't already, I recommend you go!😃🥰💖💖💖
